The Haryana government, in a bid to boost its growing high-rise architecture, has approved the construction of India’s tallest building in the 1,000-acre Global City project along the Dwarka Expressway. The project is reportedly at the discussion stage. The bidding process, according to the government, has not yet started, as consultants for the upcoming project have yet to be appointed.
The government plans to construct the proposed high-rise tower as a mixed-use landmark for offices, global corporate headquarters, hospitality facilities, observation decks, and public spaces.
The high-rise tower, expected to become the icon of Global City, will feature world-class urban hubs known for their skyscrapers, including cities such as Singapore and Dubai.
Officials said that the government is proceeding in a phased manner; besides its official use, the project is also seen as a statement of Haryana’s ambitions to position itself as one of the country's best states with modern amenities for its population in the coming years.
According to Haryana’s Industries Minister Rao Narbir, “It will be the biggest milestone in Haryana’s and Gurugram’s global trade and business centre journey. It will make Gurugram the Millennium City of the North, the Singapore of the North, in true terms. Haryana has been steadily marching towards becoming a global business centre, and we will have the country’s biggest tower if all goes well.”
The Global City project is the state’s flagship urban development initiative, spread across 1,000 acres along the Dwarka Expressway.
It is expected to emerge as a major financial and innovation hub of the National Capital Region (NCR).
Once completed, the project is expected to support a residential population of nearly 1.8 lakh and a floating population of approximately 5.2 lakh people.
The total area covered in the project is estimated at 120 lakh square metres, which is likely to attract investments worth Rs 10 lakh crore, generate over 5 lakh jobs, and accommodate around 200 multinational companies.
