The Haryana Cabinet has approved an increase in the ex-gratia amount for the families of soldiers and personnel from the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) who die in battle. The amount has been raised from Rs 50 lakh to Rs 1 crore.
This decision follows an announcement made by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini in his Budget speech for 2024-25. The ex-gratia is provided in cases of battle casualties, which include deaths in war, terrorist attacks, IED blasts, border skirmishes, or while serving in the United Nations Peacekeeping Force.
It also covers deaths from accidents, cardiac arrest, air crashes, and natural disasters during the performance of official duties.
The Cabinet also approved a proposal to allocate a 200-square-yard plot of land from Shamlat deh to Kamlesh Sharma, the wife of martyr Sub-Inspector Jai Bhagwan. Jai Bhagwan, from Hirapur village in Faridabad, sacrificed his life during a counter-insurgency operation on December 12, 1995.
Additionally, the Cabinet has approved an increase in the monthly pension for 'Matribhasha Satyagrahis' of the Hindi Aandolan-1957, raising it from Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000, effective immediately.
Amendments to the Haryana Superior Judicial Service Rules, 2007, and the Punjab Civil Service (Judicial Branch) Rules, 1951, were also approved.
These amendments provide compassionate financial assistance or job appointments for the dependents of deceased members of the Haryana Superior Judicial Service and Haryana Civil Service (Judicial Branch).
Lastly, the government has decided to raise the maximum death-cum-retirement gratuity for state government employees and judicial officers by 25 per cent, increasing it from Rs 20 lakh to Rs 25 lakh. This change will take effect from January 1, 2024.
