The strike by government doctors in Haryana, led by the Haryana Civil Medical Services Association (HCMSA), entered its second day on Friday, disrupting services in state-run hospitals. The doctors are protesting the non-fulfillment of their demands, including a career progression scheme and specialist cadre formation.

Despite marathon talks between the association and government representatives on Thursday, no significant progress was made. Around 3,000 doctors joined the strike, affecting hospital services and leaving patients waiting in long queues. Some patients were treated by interns or retired doctors.

The doctors' demands include reducing the bond amount for postgraduate courses from Rs 1 crore to Rs 50 lakh, stopping direct recruitment of senior medical officers, and ensuring parity with central government peers.

The government has agreed to reduce the bond amount but made little headway on the career progression issue.

The association has called for a shutdown of health services in government hospitals, while health officials have made alternative arrangements to minimize patient inconvenience. The strike has highlighted the long-standing issues faced by government doctors in Haryana, and a resolution is eagerly awaited to restore normalcy to the healthcare services in the state.
