Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has cut down the size of his convoy to four vehicles after Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged leaders to reduce fuel consumption. According to officials, the convoy earlier had seven to ten vehicles, including the chief minister’s vehicle, but has now been trimmed to four.

On Thursday, Saini attended an event at the BJP headquarters in Panchkula, travelling in a reduced motorcade. The convoy included his official vehicle along with a jammer vehicle for security purposes.

Speaking to mediapersons during the event, Saini said people across the country should respond positively to the Prime Minister’s appeal. He also encouraged citizens to make greater use of public transport wherever possible. When asked whether opposition parties should also follow the appeal, Saini said any appeal made by the Prime Minister should be respected and followed by everyone.

After the Prime Minister’s call to reduce fuel consumption, several Haryana cabinet ministers were also seen adopting austerity measures. Minister Arvind Sharma arrived at the BJP headquarters riding a bicycle as a symbolic gesture.

During the programme, Saini and senior party leaders interacted with newly elected mayors and party workers following the BJP’s victory in municipal elections held in Panchkula, Ambala and Sonipat, along with other civic bodies.

A day earlier, the Chief Minister had announced his decision to minimise the number of vehicles in his convoy. He also outlined several measures the state government plans to implement in line with the Prime Minister’s message. He instructed ministers and government officials to limit vehicle usage and prefer virtual meetings whenever possible to reduce fuel consumption.

In a post shared on X, Saini said the Haryana government is committed to saving fuel and ensuring efficient use of public resources in the national interest following the Prime Minister’s appeal.

He added that "In this regard, I have decided to use the minimum number of vehicles in my fleet. Until the next order, only the essential vehicles required for security purposes will be included in my carcade.” The chief minister also announced that he would work without using official vehicles one day every week and appealed to citizens to support the campaign to save fuel.

Recently, Prime Minister Modi himself reduced the size of his convoy after urging citizens to conserve fuel. Following this move, several BJP chief ministers and senior leaders across the country have begun adopting similar steps.
