The body of a young model from the Haryana music industry was found with her throat slit near the Reliance canal close to Khanda village in the Kharkhoda area of Sonipat. The victim, identified as Sheetal, also known as Simmi, was a resident of Panipat and had been reported missing by her family earlier this week.
According to the police, Sheetal had left home two days ago for a scheduled shoot of a Haryanvi album in Ahar village. She was reportedly accompanied by a male companion, identified as Sunil. The vehicle they were travelling in is said to have fallen into the canal under suspicious circumstances. While Sunil was rescued and is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Panipat, Sheetal’s body was recovered during the vehicle retrieval operation.
Preliminary reports suggest that her throat was slit, and there were visible injury marks on her body. “It is clearly a case of murder,” said DSP Rajbir Singh, adding that the body was sent for post-mortem from the scene late Friday night.
The Panipat Police had registered a missing person’s report on June 14 after Sheetal failed to return home. Her family has alleged foul play, asserting that she was deliberately murdered and did not drown accidentally.
A joint investigation is now underway by the Sonipat and Panipat police departments. As of now, no arrests have been made, and efforts are on to identify the culprits behind the heinous crime.
