Haryana chief minister Nayab Singh Saini described the Regional Road Upgradation Project a "golden chapter" in Haryana's infrastructure development

The Haryana government has initiated an extensive road repair project that will patch-up and upgrade intra-state roads across 9,410 km in a bid to bridge the gap between rural and urban areas and improve connectivity for residents, said the state’s chief minister, Nayab Singh Saini, on Sunday.

At the launch of the 'Pradeshik Sadak Utthan Pariyojna', also called the Regional Road Upgradation Project, as many as 4,227 roads would be repaired at a cost of ₹4,827 crore, said the CM, describing it as a "golden chapter" in Haryana's infrastructure development.

While the launch, repair and improvement work on 410 roads was inaugurated on Sunday, Saini emphasised that his government is committed to ensuring accountability in infrastructure construction and that “strict action will be taken against any contractor or official found negligent” so that “public funds are utilised solely for public benefit”.

The project, which would help boost the state's economic, social, and commercial growth, has been dedicated to Prime Minister Narendra Modi by the Haryana CM, saying it is a befitting tribute to the PM on the occasion of his 75th birthday.

"From the Defence Corridor to the Freight Corridor, and from Bharatmala to Sagarmala, the government has been working in a mission mode to expand road, rail, and air connectivity across the country", Saini said.

The Regional Road Upgradation Project will lower transportation costs, reduce pollution, save fuel, and give a boost to both industry and agriculture, he added.

Highlighting Haryana's progress in road and railway infrastructure over the last 11 years, Saini said roads spanning 43,703 km have been improved at a cost of ₹28,651 crore, and new roads across 2,417 km have been constructed at a cost of ₹2,534 crore.

Under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, an additional 2,432 km-long roads have been built at a cost of ₹1,077 crore, he added.

Saini said his "double-engine" government had approved the construction of 21 new national highways, 12 of which were already completed. The state now has 759 railway crossings, of which 592 are manned and 167 are automated; while 97 railway overbridges were constructed in the past decade at a cost of almost ₹2,000 crore, with 47 more being built at a cost of ₹1,026 crore.
