Former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has said after Punjab, almost the whole of Haryana has also come under the grip of floods and waterlogging. He said there was an urgent need to provide relief and compensation to people.
“Villages, fields, streets, roads, highways and cities are all submerged. Many affected people are pleading for government help. The government should immediately start the process of special Girdawari and give 100 percent compensation for the damage to the crops,” he said.
“Also, the damage to houses and shops should be inspected and compensation should be announced soon. The state and central government should become active and start relief work in flood affected areas. The work being done till now is inadequate, due to which waterlogging is continuously increasing,” he added.
Hooda said in these difficult times, all the leaders, workers, MLAs and MPs of Congress were also continuously engaged in relief work, as per their capacity. In such a situation, the officials should take immediate cognizance of whatever ground information the Congress workers and leaders send to the administration and resolve it promptly.
He has also appealed to all capable people to come forward and lend a helping hand. “Everyone should provide whatever help they can, financially or in the form of relief material, to the flood-affected people as soon as possible. Supporting each other in this difficult time is humanity and brotherhood,” he stated.
The former Chief Minister said there was a possibility of more rain in the coming days, which was a matter of concern. “To deal with this, the government should make arrangements for water pumps, motors and generators for drainage in the flood-affected areas, and also ensure the supply of food and drinking water for the people and make arrangements for them to reach safe places,” he said.
Hooda said farmers had suffered the most from this flood and were hit the hardest. “Their crops, houses and even cattle have drowned. There is a crisis of food for humans and fodder for cattle. In such a situation, it is necessary that the government should make arrangements for fodder and food and immediately announce compensation to compensate the farmers for their losses,” he demanded.
He said he had also demanded help for Punjab, which is badly affected by the floods, and said this flood had destroyed everything – agriculture, cattle, houses, shops and business. “There has been a huge loss of life and property in Punjab. In such a situation, both the state and Central governments should leave no stone unturned in relief work and compensation,” he said.
