In anticipation of the 'Delhi Chalo' call by farmer outfits on February 13, Haryana's Home Affairs department has announced the suspension of mobile internet services, bulk SMS, and dongle services in seven districts.
The measures have been made in effect from 6 am on February 11 until 11:59 pm on February 13. The affected districts include Ambala, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Jind, Hisar, Fatehabad, and Sirsa.
The move comes amidst the planned 'Delhi Chalo' march by over 200 farmers' unions, organized by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha.
Accordinng to officials concerned, suspension of internet services aims to curb the spread of misinformation and rumors through social media platforms, such as WhatsApp, Facebook, and Twitter, which could potentially incite violence during the protests.
However, individual SMS, mobile recharge, banking SMS, voice calls, as well as internet services provided by broadband and lease lines of corporate and domestic households, will remain operational as per the official order.
Additionally, Haryana Police have taken preemptive measures to prevent farmers from entering the state, including the blocking of GT Road, a key route from Punjab cities to Delhi.
The GT Road border, known as the Shambhu barrier, has been sealed off with concrete barriers. Meanwhile, the Sadopur border with Punjab, situated on the Ambala-Chandigarh road, remains operational but under heavy police presence.
The farmers' protests aim to pressure the Centre into addressing their demands, primarily the enactment of a law guaranteeing a minimum support price (MSP) for crops.
