Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Friday ordered officials to make the entire process of approving building plans for residential and commercial structures fully online to improve transparency and reduce delays.
Chairing a meeting of the Urban Local Bodies Department, Saini said clear timelines must be fixed and officials should be held accountable to ensure approvals are granted on time. He also reviewed the Urban Challenge Fund and discussed upcoming development projects planned under the scheme.
Saini stressed strengthening wastewater reuse systems in urban areas. He directed officials to maximise the use of treated water from sewage treatment plants (STPs) for irrigating parks, industrial use, and agriculture.
He said proper infrastructure, including pipelines connecting STPs to end-use locations, should be developed. Officials informed that all upcoming STPs in the state will include reuse systems.
He directed officials to prepare comprehensive data on the existing sewerage network and said infrastructure planning should consider the rapidly growing population in many areas.
Taking a strict stand on project delays, he said any slowdown in development work would not be tolerated and instructed departments to complete projects within fixed timelines. He warned against delays after tender allocation and asked contractors to maintain quality standards while completing work within deadlines.
Officials informed that GIS mapping of nearly 16,000 km of roads has been completed, and public complaints are being addressed through the ‘Mhari Sadak’ mobile app. Saini directed officials to ensure pothole-free roads and warned that negligence in maintenance would invite strict action.
According to officials, 2,276 roads have been identified in urban areas. Of these, 1,144 roads will be newly constructed at a cost of Rs 510.34 crore, while 1,083 roads covering 591.51 km will be reconstructed at a cost of Rs 594.91 crore. Another 49 roads will undergo patchwork repairs as part of the improvement plan.
Saini said the government remains committed to strengthening infrastructure and ensuring timely completion of development works to improve citizens’ quality of life.
