HAU students hand over memorandum to former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Monday.

A delegation of students of Chaudhary Charan Singh Agricultural University, Hisar, met former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Monday and handed over a memorandum listing their demands. The students urged Hooda to raise their concerns at the appropriate platforms.

The students said that on June 10, on the instructions of the Vice-Chancellor, Registrar, and university administration, a brutal lathi-charge was carried out on students who were peacefully protesting against a fee hike. Several students were reportedly seriously injured due to the violent actions of the university administration.

Hooda said the entire country has seen the incident through various videos circulating online.

“There is a lot of evidence and video footage of this. The students have also lodged an FIR in this regard. Despite this, only one professor has been arrested so far and the other accused are still roaming freely. On the other hand, a false FIR has been lodged against the students, which has not been withdrawn yet.  Whereas the administration had said in the agreement with the students that this false FIR will be cancelled within 10 days,” he said.

Not only this, the students said, as per the agreement with the committee formed by the government, a separate panel had to be formed to investigate the conduct of the Vice-Chancellor. However, no committee has been formed till now, neither has the VC been sent on leave. Whereas it was decided in the agreement that he will be sent on leave as soon as possible and a fair investigation will be conducted.

Hooda said that even after so many days, the government has not fulfilled the demands of the students. This makes it clear that the government has broken its promise to the students. But the Congress fully supports all the demands of the students and their issue will be raised on the streets and in the House, he added.
