The Uttarakhand High Court has directed the Haridwar police to provide security to the family of Mohammad Safi, a Manglaur resident who exposed alleged irregularities by a former chairman of Manglaur Municipality in 2018.
Safi told the court that he had been receiving constant death threats and fears for his family’s safety. The case was heard by a division bench of Chief Justice G Narendra and Justice Subhash Upadhyay.
According to the petition, the former chairman of Manglaur Municipality had misused government funds and committed several irregularities. Safi exposed these irregularities, after which the officer was barred from contesting elections again.
Since then, Safi claims he and his family have lived under constant threat. He was earlier given police protection in 2018 on the orders of the High Court, but says the danger continues even now.
The court has now ordered the Haridwar police station in-charge to ensure security for Safi and his family.
