Indian Navy officer Lt Vinay Narwal, one of the 26 victims of the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, was remembered by his family as a brave and devoted son who gave his life while living his dreams.

“He was a very good child... He died like a brave soldier,” Lt Narwal's father Rajesh Kumar said about his son.

“It is a mountain of sorrow—unrepairable, unbearable, and untolerable for me and my family,” he further added.

He said the entire country is standing with his family and families of others who lost their lives in the Pahalgam incident on Tuesday.

Narwal, 26, had recently married and was on a honeymoon in Pahalgam with his wife Himanshi when terrorists opened fire, killing him at point blank range. His last rites were held in Karnal on Wednesday evening, drawing scores of mourners and officials.

Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar visited the grieving family and got emotional while consoling Narwal’s grandfather, Hawa Singh.

“India will do whatever is necessary to crush terrorism and avenge such heinous acts.”

Speaking to mediapersons after meeting the Narwal family, Khattar, while strongly condemning the terror attack, said, “It is unbearably sad that we lost our brave officer. The incident has saddened us all. Today the countries of the world are standing with us against terrorism in this matter and India will definitely do whatever is necessary to suppress terrorism and to take revenge of these incidents."

Kumar, when asked what message he has for Pakistan and those indulging in incidents of terror, said, "This is a matter pertaining to my country and the government is doing its job."

Vinay’s father recalled his son’s passion for the armed forces, which began during his third year of engineering. Though he initially aspired to be a fighter pilot in the Air Force, Narwal joined the Navy after clearing the exam on his first attempt.

“He was a dashing officer—outstanding and a brilliant student,” said Kumar, a government employee, while thanking the Jammu and Kashmir government and the local administration there for their prompt support in the aftermath of the tragedy.

When asked about the message he would like to send to Pakistan and those behind the attack, Kumar said, “This is a matter for my country, and I trust the government is doing its job.”

Narwal’s sister, Srishti, described him as her everything. “He will always remain everything to me,” she said, overwhelmed with emotion.

The loss has deeply affected not just the family but the entire community. Just a few days earlier, the family home in Karnal was filled with joy and celebration for Narwal’s wedding. That happiness has now turned into mourning.

All political parties have united in condemning the Pahalgam attack, and there is a growing wave of anger across the country. Khattar noted that even the people of Kashmir have strongly denounced the violence and will not tolerate such incidents.
