Heavy rain and snowfall have disrupted normal life in Jammu and Kashmir, with erratic weather conditions likely to continue until April 7, officials said. Similar weather is expected to persist until April 10, after which the conditions are likely to improve gradually.
Low-lying areas in the Kashmir Valley have been inundated due to heavy rainfall, with waterlogging reported at several locations.
Authorities have issued weather-related advisories for upper reaches and remote areas, urging residents to stay alert and avoid travelling to risk-prone zones. They warned of possible landslides, mudslides and avalanches in the higher reaches of the Kashmir Valley.
Meanwhile, on Saturday more than 38 vehicles were rescued during a night-long operation along the Bandipora–Gurez road in north Kashmir, which remains closed following heavy snowfall.
Snow clearance operations by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) are underway after several vehicles were trapped near Razdan Pass due to fresh snow accumulation. The stranded passengers were shifted to safer locations, and efforts to restore traffic movement on the road are ongoing.
The Meteorological Department has forecast continued rainfall in the plains and snowfall in higher reaches for over the next 24 hours across widespread areas of the Union Territory.
