The weather department has said that heavy to very heavy rain is expected to continue across Himachal Pradesh over the next 24 hours. An orange alert has been issued for Chamba and Kangra districts, while a yellow alert is in place for Sirmaur, Mandi, and Una. The yellow alert will remain in effect in several districts until July 27.
In the last 24 hours, the state has seen widespread rain. Some areas received very heavy rain, while most others had light to moderate showers, which caused significant disruption in many parts.
Kangra recorded the highest rainfall at 147.4 mm, followed by Mandi (112 mm), Nahan (95.7 mm), and other areas like Dhaula Kuan, Kufri, Sundernagar, and Palampur also received heavy rain. Shimla got 46.2 mm, while Chamba and Manali recorded 10 mm and 5 mm respectively.
Rain is expected to continue in most parts of the state, with the possibility of more heavy to very heavy rain in some places until July 27.
In Shimla district, several areas received heavy rainfall over the past 24 hours. Because of this, schools and colleges were shut for a day in Kumarsain, Jubbal, Rohru, Chopal, Theog, and Sunni areas.
A meeting of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) was held under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap to review the situation.
Kashyap told officials to submit detailed reports on rainfall, landslides, road blockages, and loss of lives and property in Shimla district. He urged all departments to work together and stay prepared for emergencies.
He shared that 11 people have died in Shimla district due to heavy rain so far. As per the initial assessments, the total estimated damage in the district amounted to ₹78.34 crore.
The administration has deployed enough staff and machinery across all subdivisions in Shimla to respond quickly if needed, the DC added.
