Heavy rain triggered multiple landslides in Shimla on Tuesday, injuring one person and forcing 25 others to leave their homes. Fortunately, no casualty was reported.

A man living in a makeshift house near Lakkar Bazaar was hurt when his shelter collapsed in a landslide. He was taken to Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) and Hospital for treatment.

Eleven families from Chaura Maidan were moved to the Panchayat Bhawan after their homes faced a serious threat because of landslides and rainfall. Several parked vehicles were also damaged in landslides at Himland, near Bishop Cotton School, and Tutikandi.

The city saw major traffic jams in the morning as roads were blocked by debris. Students and office-goers were stuck for hours, and many had to walk to reach their destinations. In the evening, another landslide in the Panthaghati area made several houses vulnerable.

SDM Shimla (Urban) Oshin Sharma said teams from the administration, police, and other departments rushed to the Lakkar Bazaar spot to rescue the injured man and clear the road. “Machinery was deployed at the site for clearing debris from the road, which was opened for traffic movement after a few hours. Several trees that were uprooted due to the landslide were also removed while a few trees hanging dangerously were axed,” she added.

She added that tarpaulins were given to protect buildings near the Panthaghati slide zone. The total damage is still being assessed, and relief measures are being provided to the affected families.
