Continuous torrential rain on May 28 has plunged Manipur into chaos, with widespread flooding, traffic disruptions, and a mudslide causing severe distress across several districts.
Imphal East and West districts, along with Kangpokpi and Senapati, have been hit hard, leaving key roads and areas underwater.
Despite the widespread disruption, officials have confirmed there have been no casualties.
In Imphal East district, areas such as Andro parking, Checkon, Mahabali, and Wangkhei experienced severe waterlogging and clogged drains, leading to significant traffic congestion.
The situation in Imphal West district was equally dire, with major roads in Kakwa submerged, further complicating transportation.
A mudslide near Sinam village in Kangpokpi district, along the NH 37 Imphal-Silchar highway, swept a truck into a gorge.
Several other trucks remain stranded as excavators work tirelessly to clear the debris.
Senapati district is also grappling with overflowing rivers, leading to floodwaters inundating multiple localities.
The Imphal river and other swollen rivers in the Imphal valley have exacerbated the flooding, posing additional challenges to residents.
While the deluge has paralysed normal life, officials have reassured the public that there have been no reports of fatalities or injuries.
However, the relentless downpour continues to disrupt daily life, making commuting and accessing essential services a daunting task for the residents.
