Heavy rain continued to affect normal life in Himachal Pradesh. As many as 106 roads are blocked and 66 Distribution Transformer Regions (DTRs) are out of service, according to the latest State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) report.
Kullu and Mandi are among the worst-hit districts. Kullu has 40 blocked roads in Kullu, Banjar, Anni and Nirmand subdivisions. Mandi has 38 road closures, mainly in Seraj, Thalout and nearby areas. Nine roads are also blocked in Shimla.
Power supply has also been affected. Mandi accounts for 63 of the 66 affected DTRs in the state. Rain has also disrupted 19 water supply schemes. Of these, 12 are in Shimla, five in Hamirpur and two in Bilaspur.
The latest disruption comes as Himachal Pradesh continues to face a severe monsoon. Heavy rain has caused deaths and widespread damage to infrastructure across the state since June 30.
SEOC data shows that 68 people have died in rain-related incidents, including landslides, drowning, snake bites and falls. Another 89 people have died in road accidents during the same period.
More than 880 private properties have also been damaged. These include houses, shops and cattle sheds. The damage to government departments and public infrastructure has crossed Rs 886 crore. The Public Works Department and Jal Shakti Vibhag account for a large part of the reported losses.
Restoration work is continuing in the affected districts. Emergency teams are clearing blocked roads, working to restore electricity and repairing damaged water supply systems.
The monsoon has caused extensive damage across Himachal Pradesh. The total loss stood at Rs 88,637.55 lakh as of August 9, 2026. According to the state government's cumulative damage report, 157 people have died and 257 have been injured in rain-related disasters since June 30. Two people are still missing. The government has paid Rs 628 lakh in ex-gratia assistance to victims and their families.
Chamba has reported the highest number of deaths at 24. Kangra and Kullu have recorded 21 deaths each, while Shimla has reported 20. Lahaul and Spiti has recorded 18 deaths and Sirmaur 16. Solan and Una have reported nine deaths each, followed by Mandi with seven, Kinnaur with five, Bilaspur with four and Hamirpur with three. The state has also lost 201 animals and birds, causing a financial loss of Rs 33.605 lakh.
Private property has suffered major damage, with losses estimated at Rs 483.565 lakh. As many as 64 houses have been completely destroyed, including 22 pucca and 42 kaccha houses. Another 255 houses have suffered partial damage, including 94 pucca and 161 kaccha structures. Other damaged properties include 13 shops or factories, three labour sheds, 217 cattle sheds and three water mills or shamshan ghats. Kangra has suffered the highest house damage, with 17 pucca and 20 kaccha houses completely destroyed.
Public infrastructure has suffered the largest share of the losses. The Public Works Department has reported damage worth Rs 66,279.1 lakh. The Jal Shakti Vibhag has recorded losses of Rs 20,389.51 lakh.
The power sector has reported losses of Rs 530.61 lakh. Damage to the education sector stands at Rs 214.2 lakh. Agriculture has suffered losses of Rs 72.04 lakh, while horticulture has reported damage worth Rs 6.92 lakh.
Chamba has recorded the highest district-wise financial loss at Rs 236.32 lakh. Kangra follows with Rs 204.28 lakh and Shimla with Rs 160 lakh. Mandi has reported losses of Rs 115.38 lakh, Kullu Rs 90.10 lakh and Sirmaur Rs 83.32 lakh. Lahaul and Spiti has recorded Rs 74.65 lakh, Una Rs 53.80 lakh, Kinnaur Rs 43.70 lakh, Solan Rs 36.85 lakh, Bilaspur Rs 27.13 lakh and Hamirpur Rs 19.65 lakh. The state remains on alert as rescue, relief and restoration work continues in the affected areas.
