The Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court in Ranchi, Jharkhand has taken cognizance of another criminal case registered against former Chief Minister Hemant Soren. The cognizance order has been passed under section 174 of the Indian Penal Code.
The Enforcement Directorate had filed a complaint against Hemant Soren for continuously not complying with its summons, while holding the post of Chief Minister. After hearing the case, Ranchi Civil Court CJM, KK Mishra, passed the cognizance order on Monday.
The court had reserved the order after hearing the complaint filed on February 28. The court has directed to issue summons to Hemant, the accused in this case, to appear in court on April 3. The Central agency filed complaint number 3952/2024 on February 19.
In its complaint, ED stated that it had issued 10 summons to former CM Hemant Soren in the land scam-related case, out of which Hemant Soren appeared before the ED only twice. The agency said that Soren has disregarded the ED summons. The complaint was filed under Section 63 of PMLA and Section 174 of IPC against Soren for disobeying the summons.
Notably, the ED had issued the first summon to former CM Hemant Soren in August 2023 in the land scam-related case and had asked to appear before it on August 14. After this, the agency sent nine summons to Soren but he appeared only twice before the agency on January 20 and January 31, 2024.
ED finally arrested Soren on January 31, 2024, after he duped ED officials and disappeared from his Delhi residence on January 29. Soren remained traceless for about 40 hours after his disappearance from Delhi and suddenly surfaced in Ranchi on January 30.
