Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, who is presently under judicial custody for alleged money laundering charges, has withdrawn his appeal filed in the Supreme Court of India seeking permission to attend Jharkhand Assembly Sessions.

A hearing on the SLP (Special Leave Petition) filed by Soren was held in the division bench of Supreme Court judges Justice Surya Kant and Justice KV Vishwanathan on Monday. During the hearing, a request was made by Hemant Soren's advocate to withdraw the petition, which was accepted by the court.

Advocate Pragya Singh Baghel appeared in the court on behalf of Hemant Soren.

Notably, Soren had filed a petition in the Supreme Court challenging the order of the Jharkhand High Court, in which he denied permission to attend the Budget Session of the Jharkhand Assembly.

Before approaching the High Court, Soren had sought permission from the PMLA Court to attend the Budget session this year. But, both the PMLA court and the Jharkhand High Court had rejected his petition, refusing to allow him to attend the session.

The former Jharkhand Chief Minister, who was arrested on January 31 this year after a long interrogation by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case related to land grabbing, was allowed to attend the Special Session of Jharkhand Assembly convened on February 2 by the PMLA court.

However, inside the House, Soren had not only spoken against the ED but had raised questions on the intentions of the Jharkhand Governor and courts. The issue was raised by the ED counsels in Jharkhand High Court while opposing the plea of Soren for allowing him to attend the Budget Session.
