The Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) of the Himachal Pradesh High Court on Saturday organised an awareness session for women employees of the High Court Registry. The programme focused on workplace sexual harassment laws and the She-Box Portal. It was held at the High Court premises in Shimla.
Senior Advocate Sunita Sharma, who attended as a subject expert, explained the key provisions of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013. She also spoke about the Vishaka Guidelines issued in 1997 and discussed important rulings delivered by the Supreme Court and various High Courts. She highlighted the landmark Vishaka vs State of Rajasthan case, which laid the foundation for the enactment of the law.
Social activist and subject expert Sumitra Chandel spoke about why the legislation was introduced and its role in preventing and addressing workplace sexual harassment. She explained what constitutes sexual harassment under the Act and outlined the provisions related to the constitution and functioning of Internal Complaints Committees.
The Nodal Officer for the She-Box Portal informed participants about the online platform, which allows women employees to file and track complaints related to workplace sexual harassment. The portal serves as a digital mechanism for grievance redressal.
The programme saw the participation of women employees from the High Court Registry. It was organised to increase awareness about their rights and the legal remedies available to address incidents of sexual harassment at the workplace.
