Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has stated that the proposed world-class township to be developed at Shitalpur in the Baddi area of Solan district, near the Chandigarh border, will be named ‘Him-Chandigarh’.
Sukhu said a Cabinet sub-committee was constituted to explore the feasibility of developing the township and that its report has now been approved by the Cabinet.
He said three panchayats have agreed to provide land for the project through land pooling, and the Cabinet has already approved the transfer of 3,400 bighas of land to the housing department. He added that more land would be acquired over the next six months and consultants would be appointed soon to ensure world-class facilities in the township.
Sukhu said the state was seeing steady and positive change, with the government focusing on inclusive and sustainable urban development to address the challenges posed by population growth and rapid urbanisation.
Earlier, on December 30, Industries Minister Harshvardhan Chauhan had told the media after a Cabinet meeting that additional private or forest land would be acquired for the township project near Chandigarh, which is planned to offer world-class amenities.
