The Himachal Pradesh unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) held a Tiranga Yatra in Shimla on Saturday ahead of Independence Day. Leader of Opposition and former Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur said the march was held to remember the freedom fighters and soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice for the country.

 

The march started from the CTO area and passed through key parts of Shimla, including Sher-e-Punjab. It later moved towards the Mahatma Gandhi statue on the Mall Road.

 

Addressing participants during the march, Jai Ram Thakur said the country was preparing to celebrate its 80th Independence Day on August 15. He stressed the importance of remembering those who sacrificed their lives for India's freedom.

 

"On the occasion of Independence Day, we will take out this yatra and remember the soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the independence of the country," Thakur said. He said the march was also meant to promote national unity and strengthen the feeling of patriotism among people.

 

Thakur said he was proud of India's progress and added that efforts would continue to protect the dignity and honour associated with the country's Independence.

 

"Our journey has started from CTO, and then we will go to Sher-e-Punjab. After that, we will go to Mahatma Gandhi's statue at the Mall Road," he said. 

 

Shimla BJP MP Suresh Kashyap said similar Tiranga Yatras were being held across the country to promote unity and brotherhood. Kashyap said the Tricolour symbolises the pride of the nation. He expressed hope that the spirit of unity among people would remain strong.

"On the occasion of Independence Day, the Tiranga Yatra is being held across the country so that the unity of the country and mutual brotherhood remain intact," Kashyap said. He said many people in Shimla had joined the march carrying the national flag. He added that the Tricolour should always fly with pride.

"In Shimla, a large number of people are taking the Tiranga in their hands," the BJP MP said. Kashyap also extended his Independence Day greetings to the people of Himachal Pradesh.

BJP leaders, party workers and supporters took part in the Tiranga Yatra. Carrying the national flag, they marched through central Shimla and raised patriotic slogans.

 

The BJP has been holding Tiranga Yatras and other events across the country ahead of Independence Day. The programmes focus on patriotism, national unity and remembering those who played a role in India's freedom struggle.
