The deadline for the insurance of Maize and Paddy crops in Himachal Pradesh has been extended by over two weeks till 31 July.
In the Hamirpur district, maize and paddy crops are being insured under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana in the current Kharif season. Earlier, the last date was 15 July.
Deputy Director of the Agriculture Department, Hamirpur, Shashi Pal Atri, said the last date for insurance of these crops has now been extended by two weeks, adding that all tehsils and sub-tehsils of Hamirpur district have been notified for maize crop, whereas three tehsils -- Hamirpur, Naidun, and Bhoranj -- have been notified for paddy crop insurance.
All farmers, including sharecroppers and tenants, growing maize and paddy crops in the notified tehsils and sub-tehsils are eligible for the insurance.

What is the procedure to get insurance for the crops?
Farmers can get their crops covered through an insurance company or nearest Lok Mitra Kendras, banks, or online, along with their photo identity card, Aadhar card, and their land papers, the official said. The department officials can be contacted for consultation regarding the scheme.
The financial institutions will automatically insure all farmers who have borrowed money from any bank or other financial institution. A fixed premium of ₹1,200 per hectare has been set for the insurance of maize and paddy crops, with an insured amount of ₹60,000 per hectare.
