Flash flood triggered at Himachal Pradesh Lahaul-Spiti district

Flash floods hit Karpat Nallah in Mayar Valley and Gawadi Nallah in the Chowkhang Naingar area of tribal Lahaul-Spiti district, affecting road connectivity in the region.

Lahaul-Spiti MLA Anuradha Rana said the flood blocked the road near Karpat village. She added that the flood protection work carried out earlier in Mayar Valley helped limit the damage to the village.

Rana said the administration and concerned departments had been asked to visit the affected areas, assess the situation and take necessary steps. She said attempts were made to reopen the Chowkhang Naingar road, but repeated flooding prevented the restoration work from being completed.

The MLA said the road restoration work would restart on Wednesday. Rana also said officials had been directed to assess the damage caused by the flash floods and submit details.
