Since the monsoon arrived in Himachal Pradesh, at least 40 people have been reported dead. The state also suffered a huge loss of Rs 329 crore, as per the state emergency operation centre, since the onset of monsoon on June 27 till July 20.
A recent incident in Raitua village, Sirmaur district, involved a cloudburst that swept away a 48-year-old man, Aman Singh, who was trying to save his cowshed.
Despite his efforts to rescue his daughter, Singh was washed away by the floodwaters. A search operation was launched, and his body was recovered the following morning.
The local meteorological office has issued warnings for moderate flash floods in Sirmaur and Shimla districts and heavy to very heavy rains, thunderstorms, and lightning in isolated areas. The warnings also caution against damage to crops, structures, and potential disruptions in traffic and waterlogging.
Intermittent rains have continued in parts of the state, with Nahan in Sirmaur district receiving the most rainfall (60.4 mm) in the past 24 hours. Other areas, such as Bilaspur, Kasauli, Dalhousie, and Slapper, received lighter rainfall ranging from 1 to 3 mm.
