The state government has given the green light to launch the Mukhya Mantri Green Adoption Yojna, aimed at involving the private sector under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives to promote environmental sustainability.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh highlighted this scheme in his budget speech for the fiscal year 2025-26.
An official spokesperson said the scheme is designed to integrate corporate support with community participation to strengthen forest conservation efforts.
“Forests are vital for maintaining ecological balance, conserving biodiversity, enhancing climate resilience, and providing livelihood opportunities to local communities. They also support key economic sectors such as hydro power, tourism, and horticulture,” the spokesperson added.
Under this initiative, private companies will have the opportunity to financially contribute and actively participate in restoring degraded forest areas.
“Under the scheme, the Forest Department will sign an MoU with private entrepreneurs for a period of five years. The MoU would have all details including approved budget, cost of plantation, maintenance, protection, soil/moisture conservation, fencing and other approved activities,” he said.
The primary objective of the Mukhya Mantri Green Adoption Yojna is to expand the state's forest cover by promoting plantations on degraded forest lands.
