Himachal Pradesh Congress Leads Torch Procession Against BJP's Alleged Unconstitutional Tactics

In an emphatic show of unity and protest, the Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee today took to the streets of Shimla, carrying torches in a procession against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies. Accusing them of attempting to undermine the Congress government in Himachal Pradesh through unconstitutional means, the march began from the historic Ridge and concluded at Ambedkar Chowk, Chaura Maidan.

Participating in the demonstration were Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, HPCC President Pratibha Singh, all Cabinet Ministers, the Deputy Speaker, Chief Parliamentary Secretaries, MLAs, and various party leaders and office bearers. The Chief Minister, in his address, accused the BJP of mocking democratic norms in an unethical and undemocratic manner, with the aim of toppling the Congress government despite the strong mandate it received from the populace.

Sukhu claimed that these actions were part of a broader assault by the Central Government on the democratically elected state administration, employing unconstitutional methods. He lamented the fiscal mismanagement by the preceding government, which left the state under a significant debt burden. Emphasising the Congress government's commitment to public service over power, Sukhu highlighted the administration's dedication to 'Vyavastha Parivartan' (System Change), promising that the government would serve its full five-year term focused on the development of the state and overcoming any obstructive forces.

Reflecting on the achievements of his government, Sukhu noted that within just 13 months of taking office, five out of the ten promises made in the election manifesto had been fulfilled, benefiting various sections of society. Meanwhile, he criticised the BJP for attempting to mislead the public regarding these accomplishments.
