Himachal Pradesh has experienced pre-monsoon activity early and strongly this year, resulting in flash floods, extensive infrastructural damage, and unfortunate loss of lives in various districts, Revenue, Horticulture, and Tribal Development Minister Jagat Singh Negi informed on Saturday.
Talking to the media in Shimla, Negi asserted 17 individuals have lost their lives already as a result of rain-related accidents throughout the state, while flash floods were witnessed especially in areas of Kullu and Dharamshala. "During the last evening and this morning, some 37 roads were reported blocked and almost 47 distribution transformers (DTRs) were damaged, impacting the supply of electricity. However, no National Highway is closed at present and the restoration work is going on in full swing," he added.
He also said that in certain parts, the small bridges have been swept away, further disrupting the regional connectivity. "The preliminary estimates indicate the damages due to heavy rains in the past one week have exceeded ₹300 crore," Negi reported.

All departments, including the Public Works Department (PWD), are operating day and night to repair damaged infrastructure. "Restoration work to roads and power cables is going on, with a focus on priority points," he added.
Negi further stated that mock drills and district-level drill exercises have been carried out in the last few days to facilitate better disaster response. "All district officials have been directed to stay on high alert and provide instant relief to affected people during any eventuality," he added.
One individual survived by himself, while others were washed away. While monsoon-related activities keep unfolding, the Himachal Pradesh government is keeping a watchful eye on the developing situation, urging speed-up restoration work.
