Normal life continues to remain disrupted in several parts of Himachal Pradesh due to heavy rains, with 135 roads closed and 44 transformers affected across the state.
According to a report issued by the State Emergency Operations Centre, 15 people have died in rain-related incidents between June 30 and July 26. Of these, 14 deaths were caused by landslides and one person died in a flash flood. No deaths due to cloudbursts were reported during this period.
Lahaul-Spiti has recorded the highest number of landslide-related deaths, with 13 fatalities. One person died in a landslide in Chamba, while another lost their life in a flash flood in Kangra.
Kullu is the worst affected district in terms of road connectivity, with 54 roads currently closed. Mandi has 43 closed roads, followed by Shimla with 15, Chamba with eight, Lahaul-Spiti and Kangra with five each, and Una with one.
The monsoon has also affected power supply in several areas. Of the 44 transformers that are currently affected, 35 are in Kullu, four in Shimla, three in Kangra and two in Mandi.
As many as 38 drinking water schemes have also been affected. Hamirpur has 19 affected schemes, followed by Shimla with 18 and Kangra with one.
The situation changed during the day. On Sunday morning, 122 roads, 96 transformers and 33 drinking water schemes were affected across the state. By evening, the power situation improved, bringing the number of affected transformers down to 44.
However, the number of closed roads increased to 135, while the number of affected drinking water schemes also rose to 38, highlighting the continuing impact of heavy rains across the state.
