Himachal Pradesh received 63.8 mm of rainfall between June 1 and June 29, against the normal average of 95.4 mm, recording an overall rainfall deficit of 33 per cent, according to the Meteorological Department.

Official data showed that 11 of the state's 12 districts received below-normal rainfall during the month. Only Kinnaur recorded excess rainfall, receiving 7 per cent more rain than usual.

Among the districts, Sirmaur recorded the highest rainfall deficit at 54 per cent, followed by Lahaul-Spiti (53 per cent), Kullu (45 per cent), Mandi (41%), Kangra (35 per cent), Bilaspur (33 per cent), Chamba and Una (28 per cent each), Hamirpur (27 per cent), Solan (17 per cent), and Shimla (6 per cent).

The normal rainfall for Himachal Pradesh during the southwest monsoon season, which lasts from June to September, is 734.4 mm.

Senior Meteorological Centre official Sandeep Sharma said weather conditions are becoming favourable for the arrival of the southwest monsoon in parts of the state over the next three to four days.

He added that widespread rainfall, including heavy showers in some areas, is likely on July 2 and 3. However, the overall monsoon this year is expected to remain below normal, which could result in fewer rainy days than usual.
