In a significant step to expand digital outreach and promote tourism, the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC) has signed an agreement with leading travel portal MakeMyTrip. The MoU was formalised at a ceremony organised at the historic Kashmir House in Dharamsala.
The tie-up will allow online booking of 56 HPTDC hotels across Himachal Pradesh through MakeMyTrip. The company has also released an advance of ₹2 crore to HPTDC.
Stressing the importance of the partnership, HPTDC Chairman RS Bali said, “In today’s digital era, online presence is vital. This partnership will provide global visibility to our properties and make travel planning easier for tourists.”
He recalled that when he took charge in 2023, HPTDC was struggling financially, but through focused efforts the corporation managed to earn ₹107 crore in revenue last year.
Calling the agreement a “historic milestone”, Bali added that it would widen booking access, ensure transparent feedback, generate employment, and strengthen local economies.
In another key announcement, Bali said HPTDC’s headquarters will be relocated from Shimla to Dharamsala, a move approved by the state cabinet under Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu. He noted that the shift will reduce Shimla’s administrative burden while positioning Dharamsala as a prime tourism hub.
The event was attended by Ashish Parekh, Zonal Incharge of MakeMyTrip, Rajeev Kumar, Managing Director of HPTDC, and General Manager Anil Taneja. This collaboration, blending tradition with technology, is expected to open a new chapter in Himachal Pradesh’s tourism journey.
