The Himachal Pradesh Women’s Commission has taken note of allegations of rape on the pretext of marriage against a Himachal Pradesh Administrative Services officer posted in Una. On Thursday, the commission directed the district Superintendent of Police (SP) to ensure a fair and impartial investigation in the case.
Commission chairperson Vidya Devi said the SP had assured that the guilty would not be spared. An FIR was lodged after the woman filed a complaint, alleging the officer forced her into physical relations after promising marriage, the police confirmed on Wednesday.
Based on her complaint, a case of sexual intercourse on a false promise to marry and criminal intimidation under relevant sections of the BNS has been registered.
The woman told police that she first interacted with the officer on social media and that he had invited her to his office multiple times. About a month and a half ago, when she visited his office, he allegedly took her to his personal room and proposed marriage. When she resisted his advances, he allegedly forced himself on her.
She further alleged that ten days later, the officer booked a room in a rest house under someone else’s name, where he again tried to get intimate with her. When she threatened to complain, the officer allegedly blackmailed her with a video he had recorded in the office and gradually cut off communication with her.
The officer is currently untraceable, the police said.
