Former Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda said a government of crime, inflation, unemployment, paper leaks, and scams is currently running both the country and the state. He criticised the BJP government’s policies, citing what he described as concrete facts on these issues.
Responding to media queries on the hike in petrol and diesel prices at his residence, he said the common man is bearing the burden of rising inflation. “The Central Government refrained from raising fuel prices while assembly elections were underway in several states. However, once the elections ended, prices were increased. Further hikes are being prepared,” he said.
“The Prime Minister’s statements on conserving petrol and diesel indicate that even steeper price hikes may be coming. While tensions continue between the US and Iran, the government is hiding several key facts from the public. It should disclose the truth. On one hand, the government says there is no shortage of petrol and diesel; if so, why have prices been increased?” he asked.
He further said that over the past 11 years, the Central Government has earned hundreds of thousands of crores from petrol and diesel sales. “The Prime Minister speaks about conservation, but the public deserves to know how many aircraft were used for the swearing-in ceremonies of BJP chief ministers in Assam and West Bengal,” he added.
Hooda said that while inflation is rising, there has been no significant increase in the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for farmers. “Fertilizers, seeds, and diesel are becoming costlier, while MSP has increased only marginally. Scams in paddy and wheat procurement are widespread during the harvest season. Junior officials are suspended or removed, but the main culprits are protected,” he said.
He added that farmers are harassed under the “Meri Fasal Mera Byora” scheme. “Farmers are forced to undergo verification by patwaris, along with photo and biometric authentication. Despite this, they do not receive MSP, and irregularities continue,” he said.
Hooda also raised the issue of illegal colonies being developed under government patronage. Citing NCRB data, he said that on average, nine people are committing suicide every day in Haryana due to rising unemployment and hopelessness.
He said Haryana, which earlier ranked number one in investment and per capita income during the Congress regime, has now fallen behind. “Law and order has collapsed. Contract killings are taking place for as little as Rs 20,000. Haryana now ranks high in organised crime,” he said.
He further alleged that jobs in senior positions are being given to outsiders, while Haryana’s youth are forced to migrate for employment. “Exam papers are being leaked repeatedly and recruitment processes are cancelled, yet the government refuses to take responsibility. The NEET paper leak reflects a complete system failure,” he said.
