Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda has alleged that Haryana is facing a severe power crisis, with unscheduled outages reported across 17 districts amid rising temperatures.

Citing ground reports, Hooda said both urban and rural areas are witnessing daily power cuts ranging from 3 to 14 hours, leading to widespread disruption. He claimed that transformers are overheating, cables are catching fire, and thousands of complaints related to blown fuses are being received at control rooms daily.

He said the state’s power supply system is under strain due to the heatwave, while villages are receiving only 10–12 hours of electricity per day under the government’s “Jagmag Yojana”. This, he added, has also affected drinking water supply and irrigation.

Hooda alleged that despite claims of improved infrastructure, the government has failed to ensure reliable power supply. He said frequent outages are impacting businesses, livelihoods, and daily life, while citizens are facing combined pressure from heat, inflation, and economic slowdown.

He further claimed that Haryana was transformed into a power-surplus state during Congress rule, with multiple thermal plants and a nuclear power plant established, while no significant generation capacity has been added under the current government.

Raising questions over financial decisions, Hooda alleged that ₹1,345 crore was paid to Teesta Urja Limited without receiving electricity, calling it a misuse of public funds. He also questioned the lack of Cabinet or ministerial approval for the payment and said legal options were not pursued to safeguard public money.
