Former Haryana Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Friday welcomed the Supreme Court verdict upholding the employee regularisation policies framed during the Congress government in 2014.
According to Hooda, the Supreme Court has upheld the regularisation policies issued on June 16 and June 18, 2014, by the then Hooda-led government, declaring them legally valid.
He said the judgment secures the future of thousands of contractual employees in Haryana and ends years of uncertainty surrounding their employment status. With the court’s decision, the threat looming over their jobs has now been removed, he added.
Reacting to the verdict, Hooda said the Congress government had introduced the policy keeping the interests of contractual employees in mind. He alleged that the ruling BJP had repeatedly questioned the policy and attempted to create uncertainty regarding employees’ future.
“The Supreme Court verdict itself has given a fitting reply. The court has found the Congress government’s policy just and appropriate,” Hooda said, while criticising the BJP government over employment policies.
He further alleged that the present government has failed to provide permanent jobs or secure the future of contractual workers recruited under the Skill Corporation, despite making promises during elections.
Describing the judgment as a landmark moment in Haryana’s administrative history, Hooda said it brought relief to thousands of employees and their families. He also expressed gratitude to the Supreme Court for the decision.
Employees likely to benefit from the verdict also conveyed their appreciation to the former chief minister for initiating the policy, he added.
