Himachal Pradesh government on Thursday re-employed Director of Animal Husbandry, Dr Pradeep Sharma, who retired on December 31, 2024, for six months.
A government notification here said the terms and conditions of the re-employment will be issued separately.
The government’s move to re-employ the retired Director in the same position has raised many eyebrows. Earlier, the state government had re-employed the retired Director, Health Services, Dr Prakash Chand Daroch, while giving financial powers attached to the top post to an IAS officer.
However, in the case of the Director Animal Husbandry, the government notification is unclear on the terms and conditions. The government has gone ahead with the Director’s re-employment despite opposition from within the department and despite the fact that the senior most officer after Director, who was waiting for his elevation, will retire after one month.
The government’s policy of re-employing retirees (on a 40 per cent salary) on the same posts, on which they retire, has drawn flak from different quarters, especially as the re-employment in some cases is not only blocking the promotional avenues for others but also for youth eyeing jobs down below.
