The authorities at Pandoh Dam in Mandi district on Monday issued a warning to the public and tourists, advising them to stay away from the banks of the Beas River as the spill gates may be opened at any time.

The alert comes as water levels in the dam continue to rise due to ongoing rainfall in the region and melting glaciers.

Himachal Pradesh experienced scattered weather disturbances across various regions on Monday. Morning thunderstorms in Sundernagar led to the uprooting of trees, causing disruptions for schoolchildren and office-goers. Overcast skies were reported in both Mandi and Shimla.

The Meteorological Department reported thunderstorms in several areas including Kangra, Palampur, Jot, Bhuntar, Kalpa, Mandi, and Sundernagar.

In the Udaipur subdivision of Lahaul and Spiti district, flash floods blocked the Sansari-Killar-Tindi-Thirot road. The police have urged travelers to avoid the route as rain is hampering road-clearing operations.

Since Sunday evening, multiple parts of the state received light rainfall. Mandi recorded 16.4 mm, followed by Jot (15.8 mm), Kukumseri (13.2 mm), Kangra (12.4 mm), Bharmour (12 mm), and Pandoh (10 mm). Hailstorms were reported in Kangra and Jot.

It has also issued a yellow warning for light to moderate rains accompanied by lightning and gusty winds with a speed of 30-40 kilometres per hour at isolated places in Bilapsur, Mandi, Kullu, Hamirpur, Solan and Sirmaur districts.

The Met department has issued an orange warning for light to moderate rainfall, lightning, hail, and gusty winds (40–50 km/h) in isolated areas of Una and Shimla districts.

A yellow warning is also in place for similar conditions, with slightly lower wind speeds (30–40 km/h), in Bilaspur, Mandi, Kullu, Hamirpur, Solan, and Sirmaur.

Light showers are forecast for Shimla and surrounding regions in the coming hours.
