Himachal Pradesh Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Vikramaditya Singh announced that the state has secured a sanction of ₹3,345.81 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY)-III. The funds will be utilised for the construction of 3,123 kilometers of rural roads and 43 bridges.
Singh stated that the department has made concerted efforts to expedite the execution of projects. So far, 517.334 kilometers of road have been completed, with an expenditure of ₹802.59 crore. He emphasised that this progress reflects the department’s commitment to improving rural connectivity in a time-bound manner.
Highlighting the department's financial performance, Singh said in the financial year 2024–25, actual expenditure under PMGSY reached ₹905 crore, significantly exceeding the allocated ₹650 crore. In view of this strong performance, the state government has requested the Centre to double the allocation to ₹1,300 crore for 2025–26.
Singh also revealed that the department is proactively preparing for PMGSY-IV. Mapping of 1,560 habitations has been completed, and 1,115 have been found eligible by the Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD). So far, 862 habitations, including 102 under Stage-I, have received ministry approval.
Following a meeting with the Union Minister for Rural Development on April 30, a high-level team from the National Rural Infrastructure Development Agency (NRIDA) visited Shimla on May 2 and 3. The team held detailed discussions with PWD officials and assured that the 247 previously rejected habitations would be reconsidered on a case-by-case basis after verification.
The Minister added that land has already been made available for 151 of these habitations, and the state has requested their early approval. Once sanctioned, the government will prepare around 250 Detailed Project Reports (DPRs), covering 1,400 kilometers under PMGSY-IV. Singh assured that the work is being carried out on a fast-track basis to ensure timely execution.
