In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, the Kangra Police have attached movable and immovable properties worth ₹2.65 crore belonging to three drug offenders in Kangra district. The accused were involved in many Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act cases.
According to a statement from the Office of the Director General of Police, Himachal Pradesh, the action is part of the state’s intensified campaign against narcotics under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
In the first case, the Kangra Police initiated proceedings to seize assets worth ₹1.59 crore from Sanjay Kumar, from whom 1.246 kilograms of charas were recovered in Dharamshala. Sanjay Kumar, a repeat offender, has multiple prior cases registered under the NDPS Act and the Indian Penal Code (IPC). His illegally amassed assets included three residential houses valued at ₹1.55 crore and four vehicles.
In another significant action, the police moved to attach assets worth ₹1.06 crore in a case dating back to April 11, 2024. In that incident, the police had seized 241 grams of gold, 1,207 grams of silver jewellery, and ₹44,580 in cash from the accused, Pawan Kumar, and his wife Neena. Pawan Kumar also faces five previous NDPS cases. His properties include residential houses in Arla, Sakot, and Tarsuh villages, collectively valued at ₹81.45 lakh. The couple’s movable assets, including jewellery and cash, are valued at ₹24.67 lakh.
In a previous crackdown, the Kangra Police had already seized assets worth ₹51 lakh from another known drug peddler. “These actions demonstrate the Himachal Pradesh Police’s firm resolve to dismantle the financial networks that sustain drug trafficking operations in the state,” the DGP’s office said in its release.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, on May 19, chaired a virtual meeting from Shimla with officials in Hamirpur to review the progress of key developmental projects. He instructed district authorities to expedite ongoing works to ensure timely completion.
