Protests erupted across India on Friday after the Waqf Amendment Bill was passed in Parliament.
Thousands took to the streets in Kolkata, Chennai, and Ahmedabad following Friday prayers, waving Indian flags and carrying protest posters. In some areas, visuals showed protesters clashing with police.
The unrest unfolded as Opposition leaders filed a petition in the Supreme Court, challenging the Bill. In Kolkata, large crowds from the Muslim community gathered, demanding the immediate withdrawal of the Bill. Several minority organisations joined the protests, causing significant traffic disruption in the Park Circus area.

In Ahmedabad, the protests became more intense, with footage showing police attempting to forcibly remove elderly protesters who had sat on the roads.
Similar scenes occurred in Tamil Nadu, where the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam led state-wide demonstrations. Members of the group, which includes workers aligned with actor Vijay, gathered in major cities like Chennai, Coimbatore, and Tiruchirappalli, chanting slogans in opposition to the Bill.
These protests reflect growing opposition to the Waqf Amendment Bill, with critics arguing that it undermines the rights of minority communities.
