Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was allowed to lead the prayers after 5 years since August 5, 2019, at the iconic Jama Masjid Srinagar during the holy month of Ramadan.
According to a statement given to a news syndicate, Mirwaiz appealed to all sects and organisations - religious, social, and political - to rise above personal and sectarian interests and ensure unity and brotherhood among the people of Jammu and Kashmir to preserve and protect the state's common identity.
He said that the greatest approach to maintaining collectivism is to adhere to essential human, moral, and religious ideals and values; otherwise, conflict and one-upmanship will cause us to die.
He also said that the kids are the future of this place and that by pursuing “education and knowledge that would awaken their inner powers and consciousness, they can help form a just and successful community.”
He urged the government to heed the voice of the people's conscience and “unconditionally free hundreds of Kashmiri political prisoners in jails throughout India and Jammu & Kashmir as a goodwill gesture during Ramadan.”
He added that “the conditions of many inmates who have been in jail for years are deplorable, creating widespread sorrow.”
Furthermore, he said, “It is the responsibility of authorities to handle people's difficulties, such as the shortage of energy, which has exacerbated challenges for people, particularly during Ramadhan, especially for the poor who lack other means.”
“Authorities should handle this matter as soon as possible, given their resources. He added that the condition of the roads is poor, making commuting a misery,” said Umar.
He said that because this month is filled with enormous benefits and mercy, people should take advantage of it.
He told fellow citizens to engage in good works as this month bears significant importance for Islam.
It allows us another chance to realign our religion with Islamic principles and implement them correctly so that we might earn Allah's favour in this world and hereafter."
He was banned from offering prayers or delivering sermons due to security concerns.
