A woman who was reportedly pushed off the roof by her husband after he threw acid on her in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, on November 15, died at PGI Chandigarh on Wednesday night, police said.
The incident took place in Sain Mohalla in Mandi town. According to a statement issued by Mandi police on Thursday, the accused, Nand Lal, threw acid on his wife Mamta and then pushed her off the roof of his house.
Neighbours rushed to help her and took her to the Mandi hospital. From there, she was referred to PGI Chandigarh for further treatment.
She succumbed to her injuries on Wednesday night while undergoing treatment at PGI, police added.
Police said legal formalities are being completed and further investigation is underway. The accused has been detained and is currently in judicial custody.
Police initially registered an FIR for attempted murder. After the woman’s death, the accused will be booked for murder, they said.
According to police, Nand Lal used to assault Mamta, who had been unwell for some time, and he would not allow her relatives to visit. Police also said before the attack, Mamta had made serious allegations against her husband in a social media post.
