Dehradun Police have apprehended the husband and sister-in-law of school teacher Srishti Kandari, who died within eight months of her marriage. The arrests were confirmed by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Pramendra Dobhal on Saturday.
Speaking to reporters, Dobhal said police acted quickly after the incident came to light. Investigation teams headed by the SP (Rural) and the Circle Officer gathered evidence and carried out inquiries before making the arrests.
"Based on the evidence collected during the investigation, the woman's husband and sister-in-law have been arrested. Further action will be taken against anyone found involved in the case," the SSP said.
Police officials said the investigation is still underway. They added that no one found responsible will be spared and the case will be pursued as per law.
Meanwhile, the Uttarakhand State Commission for Women has taken suo motu cognisance of the case. Commission Chairperson Kusum Kandwal expressed sorrow over the death of the young teacher and assured the family that the matter would be thoroughly examined.
