The investigation into the horrific murder of 35-year-old Madhavi in Hyderabad has hit a roadblock as police continue to search for her dismembered body parts, despite her husband's confession.
Gurumurthy, a retired Army jawan from Andhra Pradesh, has admitted to killing his wife following a heated argument.
He claimed that, after hitting her against a wall, Madhavi died instantly.
Gurumurthy then allegedly chopped her body, boiled the parts in a pressure cooker, and disposed of them in a lake at Jillelaguda, located on the outskirts of the city.
While the police are corroborating the confession with technical and scientific evidence, they have yet to recover any of the body parts. Commissioner of Police G Sudheer Babu said, "We cannot go by mere claims. We are collecting all technical and scientific pieces of evidence. The case is under investigation."
Although Gurumurthy's confession has been recorded, no formal arrest has been made, though he is in police custody.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Ch Praveen Kumar stated, “As of now, we don’t have any reasons to believe it was a premeditated crime. It seems like the result of a petty quarrel.”
The victim, Puttavenkata Madhavi, was reported missing on January 18 after her mother, Subamma, filed a complaint.
Madhavi had reportedly walked out of the house following a disagreement with her husband on January 16.
During interrogation, Gurumurthy provided chilling details of the crime, explaining how he boiled the body parts for five to six hours and used a mortar and pestle to grind the bones.
The flesh and powdered bones were allegedly scattered in various localities, including the nearby lake.
The police have recovered a pressure cooker, water heater, and knives, which are being examined for evidence.
Investigations are ongoing.
