The accused, Dr Mahendra Reddy GS, a general surgeon, had allegedly killed his wife, dermatologist Dr Kruthika M Reddy.

The Bengaluru doctor arrested for allegedly murdering his wife had sent a chilling message, "I killed my wife for you," to at least four or five women weeks after the crime. The accused, Dr Mahendra Reddy GS, a general surgeon, had allegedly killed his wife, dermatologist Dr Kruthika M Reddy, by administering an anaesthetic drug.

He was arrested in October. Police said Mahendra sent the message through the payment app PhonePe, using the transaction notes section to communicate. Among the recipients was a medical professional who had earlier rejected his marriage proposal.

The messages came to light after police retrieved data from his seized phone and laptop, which was later sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for analysis. According to investigators, Mahendra appeared to have made a desperate attempt to rekindle old relationships after his wife’s death. Mahendra was arrested earlier in October for allegedly murdering his wife, Kruthika, by administering the anaesthetic drug Propofol, a substance restricted to operation theatre use. Both worked at Victoria Hospital and had married on May 26, 2024. Less than a year later, on April 23, 2025, Kruthika collapsed at her father’s home in Marathahalli. She was staying there due to ill health. Mahendra had reportedly visited her and given her intravenous injections over two days, claiming they were part of her treatment. She was declared brought dead at a nearby private hospital.

Initially, police registered an Unnatural Death Report, as the death appeared natural. But Kruthika’s sister, Dr Nikitha M Reddy, was suspicious and went for a detailed investigation.

After six months, the FSL report confirmed the presence of Propofol in multiple organs of the victim, which established that Kruthika had been given the anaesthetic compound.

The case was then reclassified as murder under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, and Mahendra was arrested from Manipal, Udupi, where he had relocated after the incident.

Police also revealed that Mahendra’s family had a history of criminal cases. His twin brother, Dr Nagendra Reddy GS, had faced multiple cheating and criminal cases in 2018, while Mahendra and another brother, Raghava Reddy GS, were named co-accused in a 2023 threat case. Kruthika’s family claimed these details were concealed at the time of the marriage.
