The Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team (SKAT) of the Indian Air Force enthralled spectators with a spectacular aerial display over the Sainik School Sujanpur Tira ground in Himachal Pradesh’s Hamirpur on Wednesday morning.
A total of nine aircraft participated in the nearly 30-minute show, which drew a large audience, including students and local residents. The jets, which took off from Air Force stations in Chandigarh and Adampur, flew directly over the Sujanpur grounds, executing complex manoeuvres and creating striking formations with coloured smoke trails.
Sainik School principal Rachna Joshi said the event was particularly special as two alumni — Air Commodore Brijesh Paul and Squadron Leader Himkush Chandel — were part of the aerobatic team.

She added that the institution has achieved the distinction of hosting the first Indian Air Force air show in Himachal Pradesh. “This will inspire children and youth of the state to aspire to become military officers,” she said.
Officials confirmed that the aerobatic show will be held again on Thursday as well. Among those who attended were NCC cadets Isha Sharma and Priyanka, who said they were thrilled to witness such aerial manoeuvres in person, having previously only seen similar displays in films.
The Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team is regarded as one of the world’s elite aerobatic squads and has represented the Indian Air Force at international air shows in countries such as China, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Thailand, Singapore and the United Arab Emirates.
Officials said the primary objective of the event is to motivate young people, especially students, to consider a career in the Air Force. Hamirpur Deputy Commissioner Gandharva Rathore, Superintendent of Police Balbir Singh Thakur and local MLA Captain Ranjit Singh Rana were also present at the event.
