In yet another tragic incident in Saranda Forest of West Singhbhum district in Jharkhand, a minor girl lost her life in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast on Friday. The incident, which took place in Lebragarh forest near Kolbanga village, claimed the life of a 16-year-old girl and left two others seriously injured.
The deceased, Phoolon Ghanwar, was a resident of Kolbanga village. The injured include Salini Kandulna (30) and Birsi Ghanwar (35), both also residents of the same village.
All three were collecting dry wood and leaves in the forest when the IED detonated around 2 PM. The injured were immediately taken to the Community Health Center (CHC) in Manoharpur, where Phoolon succumbed to her injuries during treatment.
The CHC is preparing to refer the remaining two patients for further medical care.
According to local sources, between 15 and 20 villagers had entered Lebragarh forest early Friday morning, around 7 AM, to collect firewood and leaves. While performing their routine work, a sudden explosion shook the area, injuring the victims.
This tragic incident highlights the continuing threat posed by unexploded devices in the region, raising concerns about the safety of villagers who depend on forest resources for their livelihood.
In recent years dozens of innocent villagers residing in the area have been victims of IEDs planted by Maoists in the region.
