An IFS officer in Uttarakhand, Sanjay Kumar Vaidya, has donated all his tour allowances for 447 days, amounting to ₹3 lakh, to the Uttarakhand Chief Minister Relief Fund.
In a letter dated April 8, addressed to the Chief Minister’s office, Vaidya, a department secretary accorded to the CM Office in Chamundwari, mentioned in detail his 447 days of official tours from December 17, 2016, to August 2025, against which he had never drawn any allowance. The officer deposited his entire fund amount into the Chief Minister’s relief fund.
According to government rules, whenever a government officer undertakes an official tour outside his headquarters, he or she is entitled a daily allowance (DA) as well as establishment charges amounting to several thousand rupees per day, depending on the duration and severity of the tour, to compensate out-of-pocket expenses incurred during tours away from the place of residence.
In his communication, Vaidya also detailed repeated visits and treks to the most inaccessible and difficult areas of the state, including Minsar Glacier, Hari ki Dun, Mana Pass, Debban, Neelang Valley, Harsil (Bugyal), Jalinga, Nanchang Pass, Qamata, Takyant, Neelkanth glacier, Vasuki Tal, Roopkund, Kedarnath, Nanda Devi, Malari, and Jolingkand.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, along with the Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Prakash Javadekar, and then the Director General of Forests, appreciated the gesture.
