The Uttarakhand Police Headquarters has deployed senior officers to oversee arrangements at the four key pilgrimage sites ahead of the Chardham Yatra 2025, with a focus on the safety of devotees, effective traffic management, and ensuring basic provisions for on-duty personnel.
Inspector General of Police (Training), Anant Shankar Takwale, has been appointed to supervise operations at Yamunotri Dham. Gangotri Dham will be under the watch of Inspector General of Police and Director of Traffic, N.S. Napalchal. Inspector General of Police (Crime and Law and Order), Nilesh Anand Bharne, has been tasked with oversight at Kedarnath Dham, while Inspector General of Police (Personnel), Yogendra Rawat, will monitor Badrinath Dham.
Officials said that physical inspections are already underway, with the designated officers coordinating on-ground arrangements to ensure a smooth and secure experience for pilgrims.
Following the terrorist attack at Baisaran meadow in Pahalgam earlier this week, in which 26 individuals, including one Nepali national, were killed, the police have also stepped up protective measures for Kashmiri students residing and studying in the state.
Local police have mapped locations where these students are currently based and are maintaining regular communication with educational institutions and the students themselves. Officials confirmed that all 1,665 Kashmiri students currently in Uttarakhand are safe.
"We are taking every possible step to ensure their security and prevent any adverse incidents," a senior police officer said.
Monitoring of digital platforms has also been intensified. So far, 25 social media posts containing objectionable material have been taken down, and one First Information Report has been filed in connection with online activity deemed provocative.
The Uttarakhand Police has reiterated its commitment to upholding law and order, ensuring communal harmony, and providing a safe environment for both residents and pilgrims.
