'Ignore rumours', says UT administration on essential supplies

There is no need for panic buying, as daily monitoring is in place and supplies are stable despite global volatility. Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Anshul Garg on Wednesday dismissed rumours about any possible lockdown, urging people not to panic and to rely only on official sources for information. The administration has assured that essential supplies, including LPG, petrol, and diesel, are adequate in the Valley, with stocks lasting for 13–20 days as of March 2026.

 

 There is no need for panic buying, as daily monitoring is in place and supplies are stable despite global volatility.

Speaking to reporters, he said, “There are many rumours being spread about a lockdown, but there is no such update from the government. If any such decision is taken, it will be officially communicated. I request everyone not to panic. Stocks of essential commodities are being continuously monitored, and their availability and distribution are being ensured.”

 

He warned against rumour-mongering, stating, “Strict instructions have been issued, and action will be taken against those spreading misinformation. People should rely only on official government handles for authentic updates.”

On the security scenario, he said the situation remains stable and is under continuous review. “There is no change in the security situation. Regular joint reviews are being conducted by the district administration and police. Tourist destinations are being opened, and we are witnessing a significant inflow of visitors,” he said.

 

Referring to the ongoing tourist season, he added, “After the opening of the Tulip Garden, tourist footfall is being closely monitored throughout the day. We appeal to tourists to visit Kashmir in large numbers during the upcoming spring and summer season.”

 

Meanwhile, authorities have intensified enforcement actions to curb hoarding and black marketing. Over 2,400 raids were conducted in the past 24 hours, leading to the seizure of more than 800 cylinders.So far, around 550 FIRs have been registered and about 150 people arrested. Public sector oil companies have also carried out over 2,600 surprise inspections at fuel outlets and LPG distributorships nationwide.

 

States and Union Territories have been directed to maintain strict vigilance under the Essential Commodities Act and related laws. As part of monitoring efforts, 32 states have set up control rooms, while 33 have established district-level monitoring committees.
